MP: Barwani Ranks First in State in Terms of Utilizing Extra Doses in Vials of COVID-19 Vaccine

The District Has Performed Amazing for Negative Wastage in Inoculation: Says Commissioner Health

BHOPAL / Madhya Pradesh’s Barwani district has got the first rank in the state by securing the negative wastage of 6.5 percent of the COVID-19 vaccine during the first phase of the ‘Mega Vaccination Campaign'(MVC).

According to the state health department data released on Wednesday, 35 districts achieved negative wastage of vaccine while the positive wastage reported in the remaining districts during the first phase of the campaign. Barwani district recorded 6.4 the highest negative percentage while Bhopal, the state capital, performed worst by increasing positive wastage of the vaccines to 17.7 percent.

Barwani is likely to become the first district too in the country which has utilized the highest numbers of extra doses of vaccine.

The MVC is being run by the government in the state to tackle the pandemic of Coronavirus. It was launched by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on 21 June, the occasion of World Yoga Day. The first phase of the campaign was run from 21 to 30 June. The three-day second phase of the campaign has started yesterday.

Congratulating the collector of the district, the commissioner of health, Akash Tripathi said that Barwani had done just amazing with 6.5 percent negative wastage of the vaccine, the districts which had got plus 4 negative wastage during the campaign, had done wonders. He announced that the extra quota of the vaccines would be allotted to the top five performing districts so they should try to remain at the place of the first five in the negative wastage.

Singrouli, Shivpuri, and Mandla districts have got second, third, and fourth places by achieving 4.6, 4.3, and 4.1 negative wastage respectively.

The negative wastage means utilization of the 11th dose in the vial of the Covid vaccine. A vial of Covishield vaccine of Covid-19 has 11 doses but the health workers usually utilize only 10 doses by giving 0.5 ml vaccine for each beneficiary. More than one dose of vaccine remains in every vial, which used to waste but the district has made a record to utilize these extra doses.

“We have been focusing to utilize the extra dose of Covishield since the beginning of the vaccination programme. For which, the health workers have been trained specially, therefore, we have inoculated 6.5 percent more beneficiaries out of the available doses during the first phase of the MVC, the collector of Barwani, Shivraj Singh Verma told The Sun Today.

“Altogether, 5,178 more beneficiaries got the benefit of the extra doses of vaccine in the district”, Shivraj Singh also said.
Singh emphasized that every drop of the vaccine was one of the crucial weapons to fight against the pandemic in the current situation therefore our teams were leaving no stone unturned to save every dose of the vaccine and trying to utilize it 100 percent”, Shivraj Singh said.

There were four sessions were conducted during the MVC in the district. The government gave a target to the district to inoculate 74,700 beneficiaries while 79,878 people had been vaccinated by using 5,178 extra doses.

A total of 253498 beneficiaries have been inoculated in the district so far of which 224562 people have got the first dose of the vaccine and 28936 beneficiaries have taken the second. There are 130018 males, 110343 females, and 29 others beneficiaries, have been vaccinated during the first phase of the MVC in the district.
