MP Launches Citizen Reporting Module to Crack Down on Tax Evasion

BHOPAL/The Madhya Pradesh government on Monday launched an “Information Module” aimed at strengthening tax compliance by enabling citizens to report cases of tax evasion, fake billing, illegal warehouses and other commercial tax-related irregularities directly to the authorities.

Launching the module, Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda who holds Commercial Tax and Finance portfolios said the initiative would help check financial leakages and improve revenue collection in the state. He said effective monitoring of the newly developed system would be essential to ensure its success.

According to the Commercial Tax Department, the module has been designed to prevent tax evasion, enhance revenue mobilisation and encourage citizen participation in tax administration. Through the platform, individuals can securely share information regarding fake invoicing, trade without bills, illegal storage facilities and other suspicious activities related to taxation.

Officials said information received through the portal will be analysed and verified by the department, following which action will be taken as per legal provisions wherever necessary. The status of complaints and action taken by the department will be made available through a public dashboard on the citizen portal, aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability.

Devda said credible and useful information provided by citizens would play an important role in safeguarding state revenues, curbing tax evasion and making the tax administration system more transparent and responsive.

Commercial Tax Commissioner Anay Dwivedi appealed to citizens to use the platform responsibly and contribute to efforts aimed at preventing tax evasion and boosting state revenues. He said active public participation would help create a fair and transparent business environment while supporting the government’s development initiatives through enhanced resource mobilisation.

The Information Module is available through the Commercial Tax Department’s online portal and is expected to serve as a key citizen-engagement tool in the state’s drive against tax-related fraud and revenue losses.
