MP Police Bust Inter-State Drug Racket, Seize 20 Kg Brown Sugar Worth Rs 20 Crore

BHOPAL/In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Madhya Pradesh Police have busted an inter-state drug smuggling network and seized 20 kg of brown sugar (smack) valued at around Rs 20 crore in Mandsaur district, officials said on Sunday.

The operation, carried out by a special police team under the supervision of Mandsaur Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar Meena, led to the arrest of five accused, while one suspect remains absconding.

According to the police, acting on a specific intelligence input received by the Nai Abadi police station, officers laid a strategic trap to intercept suspected traffickers transporting a large consignment of narcotics. During the operation, police recovered 20 kg of brown sugar from the possession of the accused.

In addition to the narcotics, police seized two four-wheelers — a Suzuki S-Cross and a Hyundai Creta — allegedly used for trafficking and piloting the consignment, along with seven mobile phones and Rs 7,700 in cash. The total value of the seized drugs and other assets is estimated at more than Rs 20.35 crore.

Officials said the mobile phones are being subjected to technical and cyber analysis to gather information about the network’s supply chain, financial transactions and possible links with other traffickers.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were involved in drug trafficking operations across Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and other states. Police are now probing the wider network, including suppliers, associates and the financial channels linked to the racket.

The operation was conducted as part of the state police’s ongoing anti-narcotics campaign being carried out under the direction of Director General of Police Kailash Makwana to curb the illegal drug trade and make Madhya Pradesh drug-free.

Police teams are continuing efforts to trace the absconding accused and identify other members of the syndicate. Officials said strict legal action would be taken against all those involved in narcotics trafficking.
