Mangubhai Patel Takes Oath as 30th Governor of Madhya Pradesh

BHOPAL / BJP leader and former Gujarat minister Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel on Thursday took oath as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh at Raj Bhawan. He is the 30th Governor of the state.

The MP High Court chief justice, Mohammad Rafiq administered the oath of office to him.

The Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Anandiben Patel, who had also been holding the additional charge of MP Governor since last June was present on the occasion. At the swearing-in ceremony,  Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former CM and Leader of Opposition Kamal Nath, State”s ministers, Dr. Narottam Mishra (Home), Jagdish Devda (Finance and Commercial Taxes), Yashodhara Raje Scindia (Sports and Youth Welfare), Vijay Shah (Forest Minister), Vishwas Sarang (Medical Education), Dr. Mohan Yadav, (Higher Education), Brijendra Pratap Singh (Mineral Resources and Labor), Om Prakash Saklecha (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), and Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains, Director General of Police Vivek Johri, Principal Secretary to Governor Shri D.P. Ahuja, etc. were also present.

The oath-taking ceremony began and ended with the national anthem. After then, Governor Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel was given a salute by the Guard of Honor.

Governor Patel was born on 1 June 1944, in Navsari of south Gujarat, was appointed as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh by President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday. Patel (77), a well-known tribal leader of BJP, has been a six-term MLA. He represented five-time the Navsari seat and once Ganddevi in Gujrat Assembly. He has served as a Minister three times in the Gujrat government, first as a Minister of State for Tribal Welfare (Independent Charge) from 1997 to 2002 and second as a cabinet Minister for Tribal Welfare, Forest and Environment from 2002 to 2007 and his third tenure was from 2007 to 2012 in the same capacity and the same portfolios. He was also the Gujarat Assembly’s Deputy Speaker in 2013. Patel started his political career as a member of the Navsari municipality in 1982.
