litterateurs’ role was crucial in getting freedom: Prof. Hemant Sharma

BHOPAL / Dean of Arts faculty of Jiwaji University Professor Hemant Sharma has said that most of the leaders who took part in the freedom struggle were the high-ranked litterateurs and they got given us independence by awakening the national spirit among the countrymen through singing songs of freedom.

Prof Sharma made this statement while addressing a ‘literature and honour session’ of an international seminar as a chief guest. The two-day symposium on ‘Independence and Literature’ was held in the auditorium of the Indian Institute of Tour and Travel Management (IITTM) on 24 and 25 December in Gwalior.
“Only literature can protect humanity and our emotions because it remains our sensitivities and awakens feelings of kindness and compassion. It also inspires us to fulfil the responsibility of being a conscious citizen”, Dr Sharma said.
He further said that most of the freedom strugglers were high-level journalists, poets and writers and we had gotten freedom due to their literary contribution. On this occasion, Prof Sharma was felicitated with the ‘Lok Mangal Sahitya Samman’ by the organisers.
The International seminar was jointly hosted by the IITTM, Gwalior Sahitya Sansthan, Lok Mangal Hindi Sahitya and Purvottar Hindi Sahitya Academy. Director of IITTM Dr Alok Sharma was the patron of the event and Dr Chandrashekhar Barua, coordinator and nodal officer of IITTM, was the chief convenor of the organising committee, while senior litterateur Dr Bhagwan Swaroop Chaitnya was the director of the seminar.
During the seminar, four technical sessions of various activities like paper presentation, lecture, discussion on books, cultural activities, the honour of literators, and poet-conference, were organised. Several participants and guests from various parts of the nation and from many countries such as Mauritius and Nepal etc. took part in the seminar.
