Women Empowerment: Gwalior Makes a Record in Property Documentation of Women in Madhya Pradesh
BHOPAL / Despite, the Gwalior-Chambal region is infamous for less gender ratio, Gwalior’s women have purchased the most amount of properties in comparison to the other districts in Madhya Pradesh. It appears an impact of a slash of 2 percent in fees announced by the state government in March this year for females.
Registration and Stamps is one of the major revenue-generating departments of the State. According to the official data, during April and May, the first two months of the current financial year of the registration department, the most number of property documents registered in the name of women, have been made in Gwalior in the state.
In the case of documentation of properties in the name of women, most of the registrations were made in Gwalior, Indore, Bhopal and Jabalpur districts in the state. Gwalior district has secured the first position by making 31.5 percent of document registration. While 14 percent of documents were made registered each in Indore and Bhopal, and 12% in Jabalpur.
A total of 5,163 documents have been made registered in Gwalior, out of which 1,626, the highest number of documents in the state, have been registered by women. In Indore, Bhopal and Jabalpur, the 820, 566 and 294 documents of the properties respectively, have been made registered in the name of women.
There are 56,878 total documents of the properties, have been made registered in the state till 31 May in the current financial year.
“It is the attraction of a 2 percent rebate on the registration fees. The people have even come forward in the situation of ‘Corona Curfew’ imposed due to the second wave of the pandemic, to make documentation of the properties. It is indicated that the district is going towards women empowerment”, Dr. Dinesh Kumar Gautam, district registrar of Gwalior told The Sun Today. “Our office remained open during the lockdown but we are very lucky there was no untoward incident was taken place with the staff and officers of the department in the district and they are safe”, Dr. Gautam said.
The sex ratio in the Gwalior district is 864:1000 but now people are carrying forward women, it is reflected with the sign of rising numbers in the document registrations on the name of women.
Gautam also said that It was instructed to all officials and staff members to follow the Covid-19 protocols and guidelines, it was also ensured that every visiting consumer should follow these protocols.
The move of reducing 2 percent stamp duty has not only tried to boost the growth in the real estate sector even in the inverse situation of the pandemic but also empowered women in the state.
The Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced to reduce the stamp duty from 3 to 1 per cent for women in March this year.
