Lokayukta may register FIR against former dean of Datia medical college Dr Gour in nurse recruitment scam

BHOPAL / Lokayukta may register First Information Report (FIR) against the dean of Datia medical college, Dr. Rajesh Gour in connection with an alleged massive staff nurse recruitment scam in which a huge number of appointments have been made while ignoring the rules made for reserved categories.

The Department of Medical Education (ME) has not been taken any action yet against Dr Gour who is allegedly involved in the scam. While removing him from Datia medical college, he was shifted to his native post in Gajra Raja Medical College Gwalior two months ago after the matter came to the fore.

According to reliable sources, a complaint was filed against Dr Gour in the office of Superintendent of Police of Special Police Establishment Lokayukt Gwalior around three months ago in connection with the nurse recruitment scam that allegedly happened in Datia medical college. After a primary investigation into the matter, the report was sent to the Lokayukta headquarters Bhopal by SP Lokayukta Gwalior for further action. The sources confirmed that FIR has been registered by the Lokayukta in Bhopal against Dr. Gour.

Around 220 staff nurses have been recruited in Datia medical colleges through an exam conducted by MP Online. The college has given appointments to the candidates while ignoring the rules and regulations made for reserved categories by the general administration department and the guidelines of the high court. It is said that a huge amount has been made transactions in the alleged corruption by the then dean of Datia medical college.

The matter came into the light in an internal audit of the ME department in which massive irregularities were found in staff nurse recruitment at Datia and Gwalior medical colleges.

Additional chief secretary (ACS) ME instructed the commissioner of the department to examine the staff nurses’ recruitment-related documents of the medical colleges, Datia and Gwalior while chairing a review meeting held on 12 October 2021. The undersecretary of the ME ministry on 8 November wrote a letter to the commissioner of ME Nishant Warbade in this regard. Around 278 staff nurses have also been appointed by GRMC Gwalior in the same irregular manner and a probe is also underway in the matter.

After examining the documents, CME had found huge irregularities of violating rules of the General Administration Department made for reserved categories of Schedule Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).

The CME on 24 November wrote to the divisional commissioner Gwalior to inquire into the matter and sought a report over the issue of deciding accountability, causes of irregularities, and options for the correction.

In the letter, CME said SC, ST, OBC, and EWS candidates who have got a place in the merit list have not been included in the unreserved list rather they have been inducted in the reserved categories lists.

Sources also said that a funny response has been given by the college in the reply stating leftovers who were not selected even after they secured high marks due to make irregularities in reserved categories lists, would be given a chance on a priority basis by 2029.

A large-scale corruption was also made in the appointment of candidates who were selected from the waiting list, those candidates who were on below places have been selected while those candidates who were on the top position did not get the job.

The ME department has banned the recruitment of nursing, paramedical and non-education staff till further orders. The paramedical staff has also been recruited without following the government rules.
